Low birthweight (LBW)

Weight at birth less than 2500 grams (5.5 pounds), regardless of an infant's gestational age. Low birthweight may be subdivided into very low birthweight (less than 1500 grams) and extremely low birth weight (less than 1000 grams). It can result from preterm birth and/or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).
