The Landsat Project is a joint initiative of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) designed to gather Earth resource data from space. Landsat represents the world's longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) 7 was launched April 15, 1999, and provides imagery captured using eight spectral bands. (USGS)
