KML, which originally stood for Keyhole Markup Language, is an XML-based file format that can incorporate descriptive text, image links, and geographic information associated with points, lines, and polygons. It is an open standard officially named the OpenGIS KML Encoding Standard (OGC KML). KML files can be read by Google Earth and several mapping software packages.
