Performance-based or results-based financing (PBF/RBF) initiatives vary in name and approach and include performance-based disbursement, performance-based financing, and variable compensation plans. PBF initiatives are being implemented in public, nongovernmental organization (NGO), and private commercial sector programs in many countries. All of these approaches include establishing program or service delivery results and tying some payments to the achievement of results.
